Beekeeping is very important in Arkansas. The Arkansas state insect is the industrious Western honey bee, Apis meliffera. Bees pollinate a lot of our crops. Eighty percent of pollination work is done by honey bees. Approximately one third of our diet results either indirectly or directly from insect pollination. In increased crop yields, bees add an estimated fifteen billion dollars to the U.S. economy each year.
